Selectmen Meeting Minutes — April 1,
2008—3:30
p.m. — Memorial
Hall
The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Joseph Judd. Other members
present: John Payne. Bob Manners was unable to attend due to a conflict
in his work schedule.
Review of Fiscal Year 2009 Budget:
Joe began the discussion by stating that he feels that the Board has
taken some huge steps in bringing both the Highway Department budget
and the Police Department budget to a level that is more realistic
in terms of actual operating costs. He is concerned that next year
may not be so favorable financially for the Town. He noted the State's
1.5 billion dollar deficit, the uncertainty of the school's budget
and the increasing number of taxpayers who are having difficulty paying
their taxes. Although Shelburne is fortunate this year, he wants to
proceed with caution and begin planning for a "rainy day" future.

Review of Warrant Articles
The Board decided to move two articles from the warrant back to the
omnibus budget as in year's past. Those accounts are as follows: Mohawk
Trail Regional School District and the Franklin County Technical Schools
operating budgets.
Still waiting for an estimate for the replacement of the Highway Garage
roof; George Dole is scheduled to make a site visit tomorrow. The existing
shingles are 30 years old and have recently failed on the west side of
the roof causing interior damage to insulation and sheetrock.
The Board will meet with members of the Finance Committee on Thursday
evening to review the proposed budget and town meeting articles.
Adjournment: a motion was made by John to adjourn the meeting at 5:10
p.m. Joe seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Terry Mosher
Executive Secretary
