Selectmen Meeting Minutes — February
18, 2009—1:00
p.m. — Memorial Hall
Call to order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Manners.
Other members present: John Payne. Joe Judd arrived at 1:20 p.m.
FY'09 Budget Cuts:
The purpose of the meeting was to review all budgetary accounts for fiscal
year 2009; in order to determine what accounts had excess funds and
what accounts could be reduced so to balance the budget following the
Governor's $31,400 cut in local aid.
After a lengthy discussion and an extensive review of all town accounts,
a motion was made by John to reduce the following budgetary accounts
as follows: $15,972 from a variety of General Government accounts; $682
- Shelburne Library; $620 - Police Department; $6,100 - Highway Maintenance;
$1,226 - Hazardous Waste Day; $3,400 - Health Insurance; $3,400 - Liability
Insurance. Motion seconded by Joe.
Discussion: Joe pointed out that had the Board not been successful in
finding sufficient funding, he was prepared to suggest "two-days
off without pay" for all town employees; a potential savings of
$5,172. Aside from the 2.5% reduction in the Selectmen's salaries, members
of the Board were pleased that employee's salaries would not be affected
this year.
After no further discussion, the motion was put to a vote and passed
unanimously. The Board will present their proposed budgetary cuts to
members of the Finance Committee on Thursday evening.
Other Business:
Bank of Western Mass RE: Foreclosure of Mortgage
(69-73 Bridge Street) - a foreclosure sale has been scheduled for April 24, 2009 at 1:00
p.m. for property owned by Bolio Investments, LLC. Joe would like to
speak with bank officials to explore the possibility of acquiring the
property for future development. No further action taken.
Adjournment: a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by John at 3:30
p.m. Joe seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
