Board of Health Update May 22, 2020

There are new COVID-19 cases and quarantines in our town this week. If you receive a call from the “MA COVID Team” and the prefix of 833 or 857 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., please be sure to answer. Contact tracing is a critical component of our public health efforts to stop the spread of this virus.

Governor Baker ordered a four-phased reopening of the Commonwealth, starting on May 18, 2020. Businesses must adhere to mandatory workplace safety standards that include:

  • Social distancing

  • Facial coverings

  • Hygiene protocols

To review the standards, go to www.mass.gov/info-details/reopening-mandatory-safety-standards-for-workplaces

If you believe a business or workplace is non-compliant with these mandatory safety standards, you may make a report.

  • Call the local Board of Health at (413) 625-0300, extension 8

  • Call the Department of Labor Standards hotline at (508) 616-0461, extension 9488

  • Send an email to safepublicworkplacemailbox@mass.gov

  • Do NOT call 911. An officer will be dispatched and will not be able to respond to emergencies.

The governor’s latest advisory also REQUIRES the use of a mask or facial covering and social distancing of at least six feet. There are some people who are unable to use a mask for medical reasons. So, if you see someone in public without a mask, do what you can to protect yourself. Consider increasing your distance or leaving the location altogether. Remember: Your actions are your own best defense against COVID-19.

If you have other questions, please call the Board of Health at (413) 625-0300, extension 8 to leave a message; call 211; or, go to www.mass.gov or www.cdc.gov
